Ability Montana Veteran Directed Care

ABILITY MONTANA

Vision: A united disability community where individuals lead with confidence, advocate for equity, and have access to the resources and education necessary to thrive.

Mission: Through collaborative outreach, resource development, advocacy, and inclusive training, we build a strong, informed, and connected disability community.

Ability Montana is an organization that offers Veteran Directed Care (VDC) services. VDC is a program that helps veterans receive personal care and support in their homes.

How does VDC work?

  • Veterans receive a budget to manage their care
  • Veterans can choose their own care providers
  • Veterans can hire and supervise their own workers
  • Veterans can receive help with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and meal preparation

Who is eligible for VDC?

  • Veterans who are eligible for community care
  • Veterans who meet clinical criteria for the service
  • Veterans who are isolated, or their caregiver is experiencing burden

How do I determine eligibility?

  • A Geriatric Extended Care Assessment (GEC) is administered by a nurse at the VA Medical Clinic
  • The GEC determines the amount of money available each month for care
