AFSP Montana Chapter was founded in 2001 and has been working to educate Montana about suicide prevention, advocate for legislation that will save lives, and support those who’ve experienced loss or who have lived experience. We believe that suicide is preventable, and that with enough people doing the work, spreading the message and stomping out stigma, we can make a difference. As a voluntary organization, our grassroots efforts engage families, mental health professionals, community and local business leaders, school administrators and others interested in preventing suicide.
The Community Walks, held in hundreds of communities across the country, are the core of the Out of the Darkness movement, which began in 2004. These events give people the courage to open up about their own connections to the cause, and a platform to create a culture that’s smarter about mental health. Friends, family members, neighbors and coworkers walk side-by-side, supporting each other and in memory of those we’ve lost.
The Bozeman Walk is now the Gallatin Valley Walk
